and oldest international fraternities.

Our Values

LEARNING

Academic Learning is at the core of any college career. Founded by eventual educators, lawyers, and a university president, Sigma chi has always recognized the value of higher learning in one's life. Though we wouldn't be who we are without an emphasis on academic success, it is important to recognize that there is a lot to learn outside of the classroom. Today, sigma chi has doubled-down on its commitment to lifelong learning. in 2020, sigma chi became the first greek-letter organization to offer its own state-authorized education to its members for the development of transformational leadership.

FRIENDSHIP

When the Founders came together to form the Fraternity in 1855, one of the core beliefs that each shared with the group was a mutual belief in the idea of true friendship. They believed that true friendship is best found through true service to each other by working to lift each other up to be the best versions of themselves. Their quality of character and their practice of core values and proper manners formed a close-knit brotherhood, very similar to the one we promote as a General Fraternity today. We pursue the ideal of friendship through the emulation of character qualities embodied in the Ritual, and we aim to help our fellow brothers achieve their goals as well.

JUSTICE

Sigma chi was formed as a response to a perceived injustice in the founders' original fraternity, Delta Kappa epsilon. when threatened to vote one of his brothers into a known campus literary society with his dke membership, Ben Runkle renounced his dke allegiance. five of his DKE brothers joined him, believing that no matter of merit should be decided by nepotism. These brothers sought to establish an uncorrupted institution. Today, we follow the vision of our founders with a commitment to fairness, decency, and goodwill in our everyday interactions. Sigma chi's governing laws allow us to hold our members accountable for conduct, ensuring the good condition of justice in all of our decisions.

In 1855, seven young men wanted something better in a fraternity during their collegiate experience, and from that recognition, a dream was born — the fraternity of Sigma Chi.
